You should watch the show "Bones", it's an older TV show that you can watch on Amazon (sometimes for free, sometimes not). The main character is a forensic anthropologist who both has issues with allowing herself to feel emotions (childhood trauma) and so uses science to explain what is happening when we feel things.

It is her way to gain control over her emotions and there is a lot of interesting conversations in the show around this topic.

I think there is nothing wrong with saying "Yes, I am currently being fueled by chemicals in my body reacting to something or having some sort of cycle." I think it is actually a good way to help calm yourself or learn how to see what triggers you to be angry or sad or happy. I don't think that dismisses the importance of emotions at all. I think it is a very useful and valid tool to help become healthier people.
