There are sites like govtrack which list every single bill with summaries that are going through Congress or have been passed. You don't have to do uninformed guesses.

It's also fairly easy to look up specific issues and access sites that monitor progress on those. Make bookmark folders so you can go check for updates.

Plenty of ways to get that information now.
