Seeing as how your commentary was basically "They get upset at my work hours, expect me to be there for them and then we have fights because I can't find someone who only comes when I need them but instead also wants interaction on their terms so we breakup" that sounded like fair appraisal. I wouldn't suggest a dog though, go for a cat or a fish. Less effort involved.

After all, this is what you wrote:

"After spending more time together, I find myself becoming agitated with the questions or questioning. Requests to do this or that start popping up, impatience with my work appears, and the first argument erupts.

When the dust has settled, I think to myself, that can happen and it will be alright, so let’s give it another shot.

For some reason from that time on I find it hard to invest myself in relationship building again.

Mostly because similar behavior pops up again, and seemingly won’t stop or improve. Now, I’m not saying it’s the woman’s fault. It’s most likely a question of compatibility, experience, and age.

That usually marks the point though when I decided I’d rather retreat back to my comfortable new normal and be alone."

Get some fish, they won't ask questions, send requests or be impatient about your work.
