Personally, I barely remember the book. I read it in school, along with tons of other books back then. I saw some random tweets about this whole thing and chose to ignore it because I am getting burned out on everything is an outrage these days. I could care less about privilege in regards to Anne Frank when Europe is turning into a desert and thousands are dying in heatwaves, but I figured I would add my $.02 as no one has mentioned this yet.

Americans focus on Anne Frank and not the Native American genocides or slavery that we perpetrated because other than the writing of the Declaration, the Constitution and being the first colony to kick Britain's ass, winning WW2 is pretty much our high point.

That's it. We LOOOOVVE anything WW2 related because it makes us look like heroes. Even though we really are utter dicks as we waited years to get involved, had no problem with Hitler slaughtering millions until Japan was stupid enough to attack Pearl Harbor. Then we cared.

We showed up at the end and took all the credit for defeating Hitler when we could have gotten off our asses years earlier, but yeah. That's the reason we all read Anne Frank, because we can read it and then go "See, we saved millions of kids from suffering like she did. Yay us" (pss, don't look too close at any Native American Reservations or speak to anyone not white about American history? Kay? Thanks!)
