I found, and continue to find it so very interesting that straight men dressing well is something that is linked to them either being gay or incredibly wealthy.
The original Queer Eye show, for those of you who remember, specifically targeted having the gay guys overhaul the straight men so they could get a date. When did dressing well become a symbol of being gay? Whenever there's shows with gay men in it the running joke is the straight gay tends to look like crap and the gay guy has to save him from himself.
It's so ingrained with men that they will shame each other for enjoying shopping, doing basic hygiene or putting on product.
Unless they're fitness buffs, then they're allowed to do product and tailored outfits to show off their muscles. Other than that, it's not allowed.
One reason I find the new Queer Eye crew and show so fascinating is that it is no longer about overhauling the straight men, it's more focused on helping people in general and I am totally here for that.
